The newly established FinTech club in the Baltics has organized its first event of a series of discussion sessions on hot topics in the industry. The association is an initiative of well-known international banking and finance entrepreneurs in Latvia: Aleksandrs Novozhenovs (Crassula), Renats Lokomets (Venture Faculty) and Artur Geisari (Monify).

The first discussion session touched upon the issues and opportunities for P2P lending in the region. Participants of panel discussion Janis Timma (Crowdestor), Atis Mertens (Crowdestate), Juris Grisins (Capitalia), and Viktors Bolbats (Baltic International Bank) have talked about the main issues Latvian P2P and Crowdfunding platforms have to address first in order to ensure safety and avoid the wave of scams that appeared in the region recently. Despite risks, speakers and the audience agreed on a better future for Latvian and Baltic P2P players, as they already are in the leading positions in Europe.

Besides the discussion on burning industry topics, Crassula and Venture Faculty have presented the first version of Latvian FinTech map. Joint research has revealed around 80 active financial business companies in Latvia. The final version will be released in the following month.

House of Fintech is a new initiative by Latvian FinTech entrepreneurs aiming to unite industry professionals, top managers and key decision-makers in the Baltic region by way of sharing ideas, discussing burning topics and growth of the FinTech industry in Latvia and the Baltics. Aleksandrs Novozonovs (Crassula): “We would like to give a common platform for discussion of the status of the FinTech sector in the region. As they say, a variety of opinions might bring the best solutions”.
